Saw this thread 6 months ago, and sat the kids down for their first SW viewing. We watched 4, 5, 1(wife insisted), 2, 3, 6.
All the surprises stayed intact this way, and the series ends properly with the redemption of Anakin.

I have heard the ideal order is 4, 5, 2, 3 and 6. Skip 1 entirely.

my nephew already knew about vader and luke, he wasnt suprised. and i like episode 2. it showed alot of coruscant and i loved the gladiator scene. we also saw yoda do his thing
