Both parties are right/wrong IMO. Personally, I wouldn't have run the quote, I would've said something like "Alfred, c'mon think about what you're saying, you sure you want me to publish this?" But then again I'm not in sports journalism, trying to build a resume for future employment, where having a story that's picked up by national outlets is quite a feather in the cap. And this is what all papers do, not just bottom feeding ones like TDR. Jason whitlock, rick Reilly, every one who writes for cbs.com especially doyel, Bayless, Jim Rome, those guys make a shite ton of money for stirring up controversy. It's all about eyeballs, so I'm not gonna blame someone for valuing their own career over something that in the end isn't going to affect LSU football at all.

As for the validity and ignorance of the statement itself, yes the us is a free speech country, but all that means is you can't get arrested for saying stupid shite not that other people can't judge you for it. Blue needs to be more self-aware than he was, and I don' t even think his statement was that ignorant he just articulated himself terribly.

2. There was a clear "gotcha" agenda. Leaving out quotes, celebrating the controversy on twitter, etc...
While I completely agree with this I still think Blue should know better than to fall for that bait. I mean every time a reporter asks an athlete their opinion on the subject now they are just hoping they say something controversial
