Bought this KC today and can't wait to put it in the water. I'll certainly be joining BCKFC soon and getting some launch points. If any KC owners have some rigging ideas (especially for a seat to attach to that awful plastic shelf it comes with), please share!

I bought one of those comfy, gel seats that attaches to the "plastic shelf" but it wasn't worth it because the whole reason you get a KC is because you'll be standing while you fish. What other specific rigging questions you got? I had an anchor trolley, marsh anchor, and trolling motor set up for Toledo. You don't need much; keep it simple. That baby comes ready to fish.

Seeing as I'm not OT rich and can't afford a sweet center console, I'm happy to have something to out me on the water and get me outside when it's not deer season! I'm really looking forward to it.

Ditto, kiddo.

And there's no better yak for the marsh.

I'm gonna set up an anchor trolley eventually but I'm not quite sure how that whole thing works. I got a dry bag, anchor and rope, dock line, fish grabber, decent paddle, skwoosh gel cushion, some water proof tackle boxes, and an extra seat to flip over and rig as a console. Is a fish finder that useful? I'm going to eventually get a five gallon and aerator rigged up for reds. Fish bag or stringer? Is a drift anchor a must have? I'm getting my uncle to weld up a trailer hitch extension with a "V" for the pickup. Are those foldable laminated maps helpful for the marsh? I'm not sinking the money into a GPS anytime soon.

Anchor trolley lets you move where your anchor point is and lets you adjust your boat position in different winds and currents.

Eta: you don't need a fish finder at all. Like Blue Velvet said, less is better, just get out there and fish. Maps are great for new areas, but I usually have service where I'm at, so I'm navigating with my iPhone.

Kayaks are so comfortable these days that it's easy to go out for half a day, and having everything you want/need on your yak is great.

An easy DIY and you can buy parts from the KC guys, the Backpacker, etc.

Sounds like you got it covered. I keep a ziploc in my dry bag with a whistle, lighter, waterproof cell phone case, flashlight, bug repellent, sun screen, mirror, etc. for emergencies. I can post pics of all the gear I keep in the milk crate if you need it. I keep everything in a milk crate aside from the cooler.

Is a fish finder that useful?
Depends. I fish 90% of the time in 1-3 feet of water so I don't have one. I could have used one on Toledo, but I don't go enough to justify the expense (though they're cheap).

Fish a while before purchasing this. Seems unnecessary.
quote:

Fish bag or stringer?
One of each. Very light and easy to store and that bag is great when you're tired of using the stringer, the stringer is full, something wants to eat fish off your stringer, or you're pushing your yak across muddy land in the marsh. Also, you'll wish you had that stringer when your fish have to spend the next 8 hours dead in direct sun light.
quote:

Is a drift anchor a must have?
Depends on where/how you're fishing.

I'm getting my uncle to weld up a trailer hitch extension with a "V" for the pickup.
Jealous. That's the way to go.
quote:

Are those foldable laminated maps helpful for the marsh?
Wouldn't know. I've never used one.

I haven't needed one yet.

Dont get me wrong ive considered a yak myself. It just makes me laught at how little i use to bring and almost always manage my limit
Of reds. Hell my seat was a life jacket so my arse wouldnt go numb. I use to put off the side of the road btween gi and fourchon and wouldnt cast unless i saw a fish movin or a tail in the air.

Team KC

So awesome to fish out of

I use a fish bag. Marsh anchor is best obviously in the marsh vs a folding. I carry both. I don't worry about the seat bc I'm always standing. Don't have a fish finder.

I lost my KC in a car wreck so I've been taking a fiberglass pirogue and launching off the road on the way to Grand Isle; right off the shoulder. Still catching limits without the KC but I'm also saving up for another one.

Have to do this when you can't stand and fish. Bu when forced to sit: Life jacket > skwoosh
