I've never understood why.

If you are plat in ranked, do they somehow think you are trash in normals?

Wouldn't make sense for me as a Silver 1 to be paired with people who are level 15 just because it's a different game mode.

Those players aren't generally helpful either. Just a bunch of spamming mastery and condescending trash talk.
