woot had a great Asus ROG laptoop on yesterday for $1000.
there are some workstation laptops available especially designed for AutoCAD etc, but those are going to far exceed the budget. i think hes going to have to find the most mainstream "gaming" laptop and call it a day. Asus and MSI both make good ones.
