so it turns out there is a really good reason to have 16GB of RAM... LINK ... apparently it can reduce the writes to your SSD by up to 63%

I work for a homeland security/defense firm. I don't work from home every day, but I've been home more often than not. It's convenient because the hours can be irregular depending on the project going on, and all-nighters do happen on occasion. I can basically be "on call." I love it. Although I can see how it could be abused, I do actually work during those hours
