Watson's reported contract via spotrac.

is kinda a shock they are paying Watson almost 700k more than Jimmy - although Jimmy is about to make bank 1 way or another.

Roby was a one year $905,000 deal.

Is this the first new thread of the day?

I think so and it's surprisingly informative.

Informative? I don't even know where these guys played high school. Booooooooo!

So is my math incorrect or does that mean we have $4,197,681 in cap space for this year? (based off 123.9 cap)

There's no way to be sure because we don't know what the Saints' adjusted cap figure is.
It could be somewhere north of $126 million due to credits and 2012 rollover that are not factored in.

Still seems as though they can get one more FA and save the rest for draft picks...Graham won't see an extension until next offseason when he will most likely be franchised anyway.

So is it safe to say that we have at least that much available? Or can it be less than 123.9?

I read on ESPN, take it as you will, that we are a little under 2 mil under the CAp as of now - with the contracts listed above:

The New Orleans Saints are about $1.85 million under the cap, which may or may not be enough to fit cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, if he decides to join the team.. The Saints have been very creative with the cap so far. But the bad news is they’re running out of contracts to restructure.

From my limited understanding, yes.

Not sure how he came up with that figure.
ETA: I think he's just counting the top 51 salaries and not adding in the $2.7 million in 2012 rollover.
See the bottom line numbers in the OP.

me either - i was just trying to actually impart something other an insult to someone deserving LOL.
Posted on 3/26/13 at 1:59 pm to Hugo Stiglitz
so I really offered nothing of value then?
Posted on 3/26/13 at 2:00 pm to Thracken13
No, you did... It's interesting to see how the media speculates on teams' cap figures.

YAY I contributed something of use.

Roby was a one year $905,000 deal.
Then he only counts $550k against the cap, so sportrac is off there. I'm looking at the CBA right now and his contract of 905k fits perfectly with the vet minimum benefit rule:
7-9 years experience = $840k minimum
quote:
Section 2. Qualifying Contracts:
(a) For purposes of this section, a "Qualifying Contract" shall be defined as
a Player Contract signed by a Qualifying Player that (i) covers only a single League Year
and (ii) contains no terms that affect compensation in any way other than (1) the appli
cable minimum Paragraph 5 Salary, (2) up to $50,000 in "Additional Compensation"
(e.g., signing bonus allocation, roster bonus, reporting bonus, or any incentive ("likely to
be earned" or not» , and/ or (3) a guarantee for Salary and/ or Salary advance of up to the
Minimum Salary for a player with two Credited Seasons. A Qualifying Contract may not
be extended or renegotiated in any manner. Split contracts, if they otherwise qualify, may
be Qualifying Contracts. Thus, for example, a contract that includes an option year is not
a Qualifying Contract.
(b) The maximum amount of Additional Compensation in (2) above shall be
increased to $65,000 for the 2012-14 League Years, to $80,000 for the 2015-17 League
Years, and $90,000 for the 2018-20 League Years
quote:
Section 5. Reduced Salary Cap Count: Notwithstanding any other provision of this Agreement, the Salary Cap count for a Qualifying Contract shall be the same as the minimum salary for a player with two Credited Seasons. F
So $840k minimum + $65k allowed in additional bonuses = $905k total, exactly what they're saying he's paid. It's only $400k in cap space in the case of Roby, but I'm sure it's more than just Roby that they're counting more against the cap that he actually is accounting for. One interesting thing I noticed in the CBA and didn't notice before: 3rd and 4th year players aren't eligible for the vet min benefit, so a 3rd year min player counts a bit more against the cap than, say, a 15 year vet min player.
