And how is that betting on football?

I only posted it as a response to the post that he only bet on draft status.

But, IMO, I think it's largely semantics whether you consider betting on amount of sacks and performance as players, on whether or not it's "betting on football," or not.

If you bet on whether or not a QB will throw for over/under 200 yards, you could argue you're betting on football. It's a prop bet. I don't see how that's considerably different from betting on who will have the most sacks.

Either way, I don't really care if it's considered betting or not. Like all Tigers, I want Sam to be drafted as high as possible, and have a long, successful career. But, as the article says, he bet on more than future draft status.

It's not, but people will claim that it is because people are constantly looking to vilify someone.

You are missing the point. You can call it whatever you want to call it...but that activity is a red flag for the NFL.

The NFL has to listen to what he is saying and combine that with what they are seeing. If they are seeing a guy who was CLEARLY not making plays that they have seen him make on other occasions, they are going to ask the question. And, when the answer is "Well, I just didn't try in those small games...and oh by the way, me and Mingo were constantly making bets throughout the season..." the NFL is going to pay attention to that.

The fact is that Montgomery has said more than one thing this offseason that has hurt his stock. That in itself shows a severe lack of good judgement.
