Do you have figures?
If not I think you are missing a very key thing.
He was costing the Saints slightly over $2 mil on the tender. They very likely signed him to a deal where the first year is under $2 mil.
Those other guys were all asking for more than what the tender was worth and we had more money to just leave them on the tender and not have to do a bunch of back loading.
Being that we are very tight against the cap, even if Junior saved us only half a mil to a million by signing long term it would help.
And the bonus we get out of the deal is we have him for sure a couple of years which is where you are right about taking a risk, albeit a low risk high reward type risk.
Those other guys we knew what we had and what they wanted and they weren't really going to improve their number. Galette does have the potential to do that.
Now I'm unsure of the type of money Galette would be overly excited for, but he seemed very happy with the deal. I suspect it's heavily back loaded, possibly with incentives. He may be cheap this year and cheaper over all if he blows up and we had left him on the tender, but I'm not sure we gave him a small contract.
