and I am completely on the fence. No Spoilers. I went into this movie complete prepared not to judge it against the original. Knowing that this was a stand alone prequel movie. I left going it was okay. Didn't suck but wasn't blown away. Just curious who went to watch it and how you felt about it.

Sorry - didn't see this LINK

I haven't actually looked much into this movie at all. Briefly, what is the deal with it? Like you said, is it just supposed to be a story of Oz before Dorothy gets there?

Would have been better if Raimi had gotten RDJr like he wanted for the role.

I saw it. I don't like the Wizard of Oz in any way and didn't care about the backstory. Only went bc my wife wanted to. So my thoughts:

Franco did a great job.
Mila Kunis was ok but didn't really have the right look IMO.
The special effects were top notch.
The story was ok I guess. Nothing that riveting.
The movie lacked the creepiness of the original and the 80s sequel, thankfully.

There was nothing that terrible about it but for me there was nothing that drew me in either. Forgettable movie.

Holes in it? Sure, everywhere, but hey, who cares the hot Russian witch could have just killed the wizard when she landed in the village near the start looking and acting like our wives do after a year or so into a marriage.

I took my 6 year old to go see it and she was on the edge of her seat the entire last hour. She happily clapped her hands at the end.

Really, that’s all I was hoping for. Kind of like Wreck it Ralph. That was nothing great, but I thought it was pretty good and entertaining for a kids movie.

As for an adult going in not expecting much more than a bunch of eye candy, I was amused. It does not have the tremendous screen play the Wizard of Oz sported, but with the technology today, the visuals are just as good and probably even better.

I found myself thinking about half way in that this is a very good escape from reality movie and it almost has that dream feel to it as well.

Does it have a classic ending. No, not really, but it does have a lot of action and it has a pretty good story line.
