I would stop discussing sitcoms with these people. They obviously do not understand the format. Plots are recycled all the time by every show.
By season 4 or 5, every show is going back to the season one well but just changing the pairings. It's inevitable that other shows are going to have similar plots. From there it's all about execution and how likeable the characters are.

I usually dont actually jump in those arguments, because i know theyre dumb. I just see them a lot on this board
