Your right, they just make them do it for no reason at all. It's so useless why would you want a defensive player or for that matter a player who is going to use upper body strength to rip balls out or make arm tackles have upper body strength. I see your point now.

there are plenty of drills that are more or less irrelevant for some positions and very relevant for others. all the players do the same drills. do you think it matter what an OL's 40 time is?

First, nobody makes them do it.
So all the guys who choose not to participate in bench press shouldn't be drafted?

He has plenty of game tape showing how adept he is at using his strength to rip balls out and make tackles.

You're right, we will have to go back and give the ball back to all the players that he forced to fumble. Obviously his bench press confirms that those fumbles didn't happen.
