When I was 11 or 12 (I'm 31 now) my aunt and uncle who visited England regularly sent me a hat with a team logo on it that I'd never heard of. She even had to write "soccer team" on the tag to help me out. As it turns out, it was a Liverpool hat so I started following the club as best I could. Back in those days there were no matches on tv or internet streams (hell there barely was an internet). It wasn't until about 10 years ago that I was able to start watching some matches on any regular basis. People who have started following a club in the past few years don't realize how easy they have it. Even teams in the relegation zone get matches televised regularly now. I'm incredibly fortunate to be able to watch the club I love every time they suit up now and I'll never take that for granted. I still have that hat, though I don't wear it because I hope to pass it along to my son or daughter one day. I'm just thankful it wasn't a United hat.
