Ehh, I think Lion King does it fine. Really the big initial culprit, and the honorary first Dreamworks film, is Aladdin. Robin Williams is the genie and they wrote the character with Robin in mind. I really think this is among the first instances of that happening in animation. The hyenas were somewhat, but they weren't major characters either, just thugs. I seriously doubt they were writing The Lion King with JTT and Brodrick in mind as being Simba.
Ever since then, although it has calmed down somewhat in recent years, Dreamworks went apeshit with it and then a bunch of other studios began to copy them. Hell, it took until "How to Train Your Dragon" for Dreamworks to calm down on it. I too hate how people who have no business voice casting (Ben Stiller, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan (that one is a real head scratcher), etc), but hopefully it will soon calm down.

Nathan lane steals the show, and James earl jones is James earl jones but the rest of it is painful. Jeremy irons singing, eek.

It might be, ive never really thought about it. There has to be an earlier one.

I don't think it ever will. Now some B, c list celebrities give great performances (i absolutely love JW and judy greer in archer) (the last few batman animated films are also a good example) from time to time but I don't go to see animated movies because will smith is in them, but I guess some people do.

That's not how I see beauty and the beast. I actually dislike the moral of that movie as much as any other. Basically she has an abusive man who locks up her father, then locks her up and is rude and prone to outbursts of temper. Then because he later says he is sorry and is nice to her she thinks he must be good at heart, and she falls in love with him. She should be happy that he seems to be changing but no way should she get emotionally or romantically involved.
