Abrams is not my cup of tea, but I put him in the same category as Michael Bay and others in the "big budget" Hollywood mold - take away their money, they're impotent.
On the other hand, give the Coens, Whedon, or Nolan a small budget and a green light - you'll still get an excellent movie. Just my opinion.

Abrams has been working with small budgets just as much as Whedon for the last 10 years. You are dead to me!
