If they're not going to respect what came before, again, I'm serious, why am I watching it then?
To be entertained? To watch a new beginning to a series you've loved? To see how a new imagining of the franchise works? I don't know, pick one.

If it is just in "the key" of Star Trek, or "flavored" with Star Trek, but it throws everything that made me enjoy Star Trek away, why do I even care?
Is the only thing you care about TOS? I mean that seriously. And hell, I don't really care about it, I just thought it was enjoyable. Do you have to actually care about something to truly enjoy it? Or even like it a little? I could give two damns about the Avengers. In fact, I much prefer other superheroes to the Avengers brand. But I still found that movie enjoyable (which apparently you did as well).
Do you only watch movies of things that you've developed a deep-seeded connection with through years of devoted fandom? Or do you watch standalone movies like Inception and Shutter Island and Goodfellas and on and on and on...?
I guess I'm just confused as to your question: Why should you care? You shouldn't. Perhaps that's the problem You care too damn much.

You picked three pretty good movies. I enjoyed them.
I didn't enjoy the 2009 movie. I'm in the minority. I admitted it. I guess you're right and I'm wrong then. The best news about all of this is that I never have to watch another Star Trek or Star Wars movie ever again. Or Indiana Jones.
