The main difference between the Gen 2 and the Gen 3 is the Gen 3 will reliably feed in the Marines new M4 variant, theh M27. The Gen 2 had problems feeding in the M27, which is why the Marines have banned all polymer mags from being used now, even though Magpul says the Gen 3 works just fine.

The new Pmags don't come with the feed lip protectors.
