I think it had more to do with the heat/humidity than fitness. The US only had two starters not playing in Europe right now (GAM being one of them).

Weak excuse IMO. These are professional athletes. GAM is also in the offseason, while guys like Jozy should be at peak fitness levels. That excuse only goes so far.
