You forgot "wield-ability", which is super important when a pig is charging you.
Travis Haley might be able to deploy his carbine in that situation, but I'd rather be able to point and shoot with a gun I can pull from the holster in no time flat.
In this situation it's not like he's going to be walking around with a shotgun at the ready in a 1-point sling ready to light up some tangos.

If it's just going to be for pig defense I'd say the 10mm would be a good pistol round for you. Ammo can be a little pricey, so it's not going to be a weekend at the range gun though. For something a little less pricey to shoot either a .357 revolver or a .45ACP semi-auto.
