I think you mean they were heavily influenced by southern culture and music and immortalized their respect for it.

probably the fact that rock n roll started in the south. same reason led zeppelin recorded one of their albums in memphis

they were heavily influenced by southern culture and music and wanted to emulate the sounds....they did it well.
