OUTFIELD

LF: Raph Rhymes Sr.*
CF: Chris Sciambra So.*
RF: Mark Laird Fr.*
Andrew Stevenson Fr.*
Sean McMullen Jr.*
Alex Edward Sr.

It'll be hard to top what Raph did last year, no question. The nations leading hitter returns for his final season at the box...one can only imagine why and the the final destination he hopes to lead this talented team. After switching from DH and LF Rhymes will start the year in LF where he'll anchor a young, but extremely talented group of incoming outfielders. Rhymes bat is about as good as it gets in the college game, he doesn't show a ton of power but he can spray the ball all over the field anytime. His weakness would be glove in the outfield, in the next level he looks to project as a second baseman. Chris Sciambra who was plagued with the neck injury he sustained last year is back in CF and 100% ready to go for opening night. Sciambra doesn't have one tool that he excels at yet the broad work of his game is what will get him in the lineup. Another left handed bat Chris is a natural leadoff hitter or bottom of the line bat with above average speed. The picture in RF is a tad more blurry. Mark Laird, Andrew Stevenson, and Sean McMullen all incoming players are still competing for what believes to be that final spot in the lineup. All three hit from the left side and all three have different assets to their game. Mark Laird, the football star from Monroe, LA and Andrew Stevenson instantly become the fastest players on the team. Laird and Stevenson both are the typical slap hitters who use their speed to cause disruption. McMullen the JUCO transfer comes in with experience and a tad more power in his bat. Although not as fast as the previous two mentioned he's your more steady and ready player to date.
It will be interesting to see who gets the nod next week, but one thing is for sure...Mainieri will mix and match this spot probably until at SEC play opens up. Alex Edward another senior and leader will backup the outfield spots as well as be a vital right handed bat when against left handed pitching.

EDIT: The 2nd 70 so far. (Jacoby got one for fielding.)

Still kinda stingy on those 75's though.

And the 3rd & 4th 70's for the lefty outfielders, Laird & Stevenson...

Any chance that these guys are just skinny teenagers who will learn to become power hitters as juniors and seniors once they fill out?

I guess it's just impossible for one guy to have both speed AND power?
