Another log on the "Mac Pack" fire was when LSU AD Jim Corbett died. As I remember it, Corbett was a staunch Mac ally with the powers that be at LSU and his demise was a big political loss for Cholly. As well as a disheartening loss of a close friend.

Speaking of the press. Bud Monte(t?) was the GG of that era. Except way more influential. When he started to go against Mac, the end was near.
