He was in plenty of danger, he had to kill or be killed in multiple occasions. Of course we all knew he was going to come out victorious because he is the lead role and there was still too much time remaining in the film. No lead role is ever in any real danger of death until the end of a movie.

unless they rope-a-dope you by advertising the movie as a vehicle for a star that dies right at the beginning like with Executive Decision and Steven Segal.
