I'll be honest, I have an empty revolver sitting on my desk, all the ammo is in a dry box on yr floor, and a shotgun and rifle unloaded in their cases with ammo in a dry box or blind bag. Not prepared at all.

Realistically, AT LEAST load the revolver and put in in the dry box - it's useless sitting out in the open, unloaded - it is a literal paperweight as it is now. You're not hurting yourself as you have to get to the dry box to load the d*mned thing anyway, and this skips a step. Best practice would be getting a little gunvault that allows you to quickly open it and leave it loaded, on your desk, in the space it occupies now.
