no doubt the team plays much better ball hawking and running in chaos than it does in the half court. Hopefully we start to use it a bit more or earlier. If we could get out to an early lead off of it that would help and then maybe start the second half in it as well to try and stop the problems we are having early in the second.

Most of the shots he took were reasonable shots and the only ones Florida's zone defense was giving us. If he doesn't take those shots who does? It's not the kind of shots he took that bother me, just that his technique is so bad.
Tom, I think they'd be reasonable shots if he had shown he could make them at better than a 25% clip. I don't think he's shown that. Whether it's technique or whatever the issue. How is JOB3 repeatedly taking shots he rarely makes better than him passing it back out and re-setting and giving one of our 4 other players a chance at a better shot or getting him another chance closer in later in the set?
He was 1-8 yesterday I think and I don't think sitting him out a short stretch to reinforce it hurts us all that bad with what he's giving us if he keeps doing that.
I gotta believe there are shots available in our half court sets better than 3's, 18-footers and 15-foot fall-aways from Johnny more times than not if we take those away from him. And the best way to get that through to kids these days is playing time.
Yes, short term lessons can be painful in that short term, but helpful down the line. And we still have alot of games left to play.
I'd just as soon get it done this year and not have to re-enforce again next year.

A 9-9 sec record would make me think JJ would take us dancing next year but I just hope they get a little post season action and help the teams maturity for next year.... If we won the NIT I would cry.

I think Johnny Jones is a great motivator and is getting the absolute most out of these players. I haven't seen an LSU team play with as much effort and heart in a long time. When JJ gets some more talent on this roster, watch out. The present may just be average but the future is very bright for LSU basketball.

Most positive thing i saw was our full court press. It takes great coaching to make the press work as good as it did. To me, the future looks bright for LSU basketball

It doesn't hurt at all that we really have kids who can make the press work. Morgan, Coleman have length and athleticism to really make the traps effective.
And Carmouche and Hickey are real ball hawks and have a natural instinct for the steal.
3 of they guys we didn't have last year.
The first time they ran it, and very effectively, against Seton Hall CJJ said we had barely even practiced it.
I'll give Bullet credit for some things since he's been here, no doubt...but I think he'll be the first to tell (and has)that he has the players to press, just not the depth to do it for long periods.

He said as much in his post game interview yesterday, which is one thing that makes next season so scary, when you have a two deep (three deep in some positions) roster that is full of Hickeys, Carmouches, Morgans and Colemans it allows you to use the press more often. Next year's defense should be incredibly fun to watch

I'm not a press for 40 minutes guys...too Nolan Richardson for me. But we should definitely be able to do it more often next year.
What I would like to see a bit more this year, especially if we keep struggling in the half-court offense like we have the last 4 games, is to throw in some pressing here and there earliear, not just in desperation time.
Like after a made free throw. Surprise 'em with it.
