NFL schedules are so random, for the most part. You have 1/8 of games dictated by how you finish, and most years that's virtually meaningless, this year was the exception in the AFC.
Denver for example played 6 ACF west, 4 AFC North (@Baltimore, @ Cinci), 4 NFC South (@Atlanta), and their selected matchups were last year's division winner @New England and Houston at home.
I guess in total you had 6 dogs in the AFC West, Cleveland, and Carolina. Everyone else was decent, but that's half your games against pretty bad teams.
Next year they play NFC East and AFC South, so you never know what you're going to get.
