How much will Mettenberger improve this offseason?

I am would think coming into his 2nd starting season he should develop more of a leadership role in the offense. Maybe develop a better pre-snap read of defenses?

Without a new coach working with him, I'd say zero

The same as JL and JJ did. It takes a coach to improve a kid.

How much did he improve from NT to Clemson? I say about that much.

He needs to do some speed and agility drills. Not to become RGIII but to be able to look like he doesnt have concrete in his cleats. He just needs to be able to make quicker decisions either to make the throw on time or go to his next read or checkdown.

I hope he learns how to move his damn feet to avoid a sack

He could start by watching film on AJ to see how you are supposed to move in the pocket.

Unfortunately, since he's played three years already, he probably is near the top of his learning curve. And as others have said, he has a problem throwing the ball consistently accurate. Plus he has no mobility.
His interviews quote him as saying he is going to improve, but sounds hollow to me. Hate to sound negative, but it's hard to be optimistic after watching him all year. Before last season I posted that people were way too premature in predicting magical improvements in the passing game. Mettenberger hadn't played a down for LSU and he had the nickname Mettsiah??

He needs to get quicker with his feet. Watch McCarron and see how fast he gets away from Center and how he slides in the pocket. its not about straight line speed, but Mett is far too deliberate. he also needs to quicken the release a little and it would be nice if he could get more accurate on deep balls.

Its kind of hard when we have a turnstile at tackle

shouldnt the coaches be working with him on this...or are they more like the prime directive in star trek, letting the players progress "naturally", without any interference/coaching?

This. Met as been in the program two years under the same coaches. I had hope after the Bama game but, well you know the rest.........

We need to worry more about the O line and receivers. Mett will be fine.

He needs to improve DRAMATICALLY throwing the deep ball period. What is the good having a QB with a cannon on his shoulder if he can't complete the deep pass. How many over throws were there this year with wide open receivers, way too many to count. That can't happen.

did we hire a new OC or something?

In the month of November he threw for 1068 yard, which was about 40% of his season total in 4 games. In that span his completion % was 61.65% with a 2:1 TD:Int ratio. He definitely improved down the stretch of the season.

Except for the bowl game I feel like Mett progressed very nicely this year. He started bad but he definitely grew.
I look for him to be even better next year.

About as much as JJ improved from his freshman to senior seasons.

Mettsiah will be the 2013 Heisman winner, book it

he really didn't start bad. the combo of the OL issues and WR drops hurt his numbers. he had an accuracy issue in particular vs. aTm and SC, but other than that I thought he threw the ball ok. the deep ball issue definitely needs addressing, he left a lot of big plays out there.
all that said, I feel pretty good about the kid going forward if we can coach up the young OL and have some consistency there next yr.
