I may be off base, but I think you may be wasting your time going while it's still pretty chilly like this. They burrow themselves in the mud when it gets old and are very lethargic. Depending on the weather I would wait until at least early March.

Temp in the water needs to be at least 65 degrees. That's why I was asking the question to find out who has been in Manchac and if the water temp has been at the mark. I'm fairly certain it has. I'm going.
