I've coached kiddos selected to both games, from my understanding:
1. Is it a greater honor to be accepted to play in one over the other?
-Yes, a huge deal. Both games are nationally televised and have top notch coaching and exposure.
2. How are recruits selected to appear in one of these games?
-They game organizers reach out to the kids and their families. They way it shakes out: each recruiting service sponsor (ESPN for UA and Rivals for AAA) go after their highest rated players on their site so that they can feature them during the game and the week leading up to it. About 80% of the kiddos are just filler and are pretty interchangeable. They target the big fish early and try and secure their commitment.
3. Are some recruits given the opportunity to pick one or the other and its up to the recruit to decide?
-The kids are given the chance, but it usually comes down to who offered first and what service gives them more consistent love. Also the swag that each one hands out is ridiculous. Seeing as the UA game is sponsored by UA and AAA is sponsored by adidas, those kiddos walk away with a ton of shoes, cleats, and apparel (this is bigger dealbreaker than most people realize).
