What happened in that NC game last year? What happened in the bowl game this year? We were a few plays from playing for the NC this year? No, we were a few plays away from playing in the SECCG this year. We were also a few plays from losing to Arkansas, Auburn, and Ole Miss. But someone the "a few plays" metric only counts when looking at the Alabama game and not all of the games we tried to shite away at the end.

The program is stagnant. It's stagnant at a good level, but it's not a championship program. For some that's fine, because they've got some weird battered wife syndrome where they think that being terrible in the 90's means we should excuse terrible coaching now because we win 9 or 10 games a year. Just because I ate top ramen in college doesn't mean I don't care if my steak is overcooked now.

Expectations change, and LSU is paying their coach elite money and they don't have a whole lot to show for it lately. In 6 years they've got one SEC title that was followed by a historically embarrassing NCG performance. That's it. They've won the west once, won the SEC once, and lost an embarrassing title game. They've had embarrassing losses to Penn State and now Clemson. They've a miserable offense that is in the bottom half of the FCS most years.

Is that acceptable? Depends on what you want out of the program, I guess. But despite going to LSU in the 90s I still have higher hopes for the program than being the 3rd or 4th best program in the SEC.
