no, it´s not a ´play on words´type thing, or even a politically correct BS thing. It´s different, it´s very difficult to explain in a few lines.

CWill could add alot, as could WM. Especially WM, if he´s spent alot of time in Italy, and most certainly if he´s first generation Italian (I´m not sure).

Cwill´s input would be good, as it´s firsthand American, although France is different for all Europeans as well, not just the Americans or British (well, really the English, the other Brits haven´t the same problems).
