still needs to learn to mix it up a little better. We threw more but are still way to predictable. Throwing on 2nd or 3rd down and short (or even 4th down) should not be a complete oddity.

In the last 3 games of the yr on 1st they ran the ball 58% of the time and passed it 57% of the time on 2nd.

On 3rd down in those last 3 games, LSU passed the ball bout 70% of the time.

The passing game began to mature in the last 3rd of the season...all I'm saying.

what about 2nd and short or 3rd and short. I would say they rarely threw, if ever, in those situations. Way to predictable. Why not take a shot down the field every now and then when the D is stacked waiting for a run. Those 70% passing on 3rd down were probably predominately 3rd and long situations. That's all I'm saying.

ill use the bama game as an example. In 2nd half we threw on 3rd down when bama knew we are going to throw and we still completed most of those passes.

When it comes down to it, You have to call the plays that are working.

Miles dosnt think that way.

He thinks you have to run the ball no matter what.

when your in a game and your running game is getting about 2 yrds a carry but your qb is hot, you cant have all those wasted plays of 1 or 2 yrds.

Well, when you run the pitch dive on first into the back of the guard for short gain and overthrow on 2nd, you are consistantly in 3rd and long. Hard to pick those up with high rate of success. I'd rather see a short pass on 1st that can be completed with some consistency (maybe a tight end curl, wr short out route, that wr bubble screen, etc) and pick up a few, then pound Hill/Hillard/Blue/whoever on second. I know we did it this year, but not with much success. Problem is we have no consistency.
