You know how I know which Tiger fans are not also Saints fans? The ones who think Hawthorne is the best announcer, college or pro, when we have Jim Henderson calling the Saints games in the same market.
I agree with the notion that Hawthorne brings excitement to the games he calls. But he is also unbearably negative every time LSU makes a mistake or a bad play.
But worse than that, is that he is factually off by a country mile! If you are watchng a game and also listening to Hawthorne call the game, you often cannot believe you are watching the same game that he is calling.
If you are a big X's and O's and detail oriented type of fan, then Hawthorne is really tough to listen too. If you're just a rah-rah tell us the final outcome, the details don't matter kind of fan, I can see how you think Hawthorne is wonderful.
Mark my words, when Hawthorne finally (mercifully) retires, the next LSU announcer will be the next guy to be considered "one of a kind" by Tiger fans, and "irreplaceable".
If you don't believe me, you're probably too young to remember Jim Ferguson.
