I think the key here is inoffensive. Granted I owned huey lewis, billy ocean and whitney albums in the 80s, but the music was pretty boring IMHO. And they played that plus a lot of other crap.

Phil collins is a different topic, but I am not a fan. He did write some catchy tunes.

But I do agree it was better than what is being played now, but really who listens to the radio? I can only think of three people I know that listen to mainstream radio. one worked in radio for a long time, so she listens to her old station. And the other two just has shitty taste in music. Like really shitty.

I think its just kids under the age of 16 or so plus at places that need music but won't pay like drs offices.

Everyone else listens to their ipod. or xm.

Alternative music has always been popular among people looking for a new sound. The "indie" thing is just the new wave of music the younger generation claims as their own.

Pink Floyd was alternative and experimental, as was Rush at one time. Now they are fairly mainstream. I don't have any issues with indie fans with the exceptions of the ones who think if it isn't indie, it sucks....and if you have heard of it, it's too mainstream.
