Pop music has always sucked. You know the 80s music they play at 80s parties? They didn't play that shite in the 80s (I was there). They played a lot of shitty arse music in the 80s.

You know the music you hear from the 70s? Well that got a little bit more airplay, but most of the radio play in the 70s was light rock and disco, which has not aged well.

I would also suggest this board since it has a lot of college students on it, tends to listen to more college radio.

Finally, with the advent of XM and the ease it is to buy songs, the radio is almost irrelevant when it comes to what people listen to other than children and grandmas.
