The Insect Trust - "Our Sister The Sun"

From the experimental hippie daze of 1970. Their sound is sort of The Velvet Underground meets Zappa, with some folk thrown in. No less than jazz legend Elvin Jones is on drums here.

Saxophonist Robert Palmer (back row 2nd from left in photo), like most of the band a native of Arkansas, would go on to become a rock critic for The New York Times and write highly regarded books like Deep Blues.

Neurosis is easily my favorite band that "no one" has ever heard of, with Russian Circles a close second.

I like a few of these newer "progressive metal" bands though, like Between the Buried and Me. Dillinger Escape Plan is also good. Probably best left to the ears of musicians. I don't know how you could appreciate it otherwise. I could be wrong, though.
