I have one that DISH gave me when I got it setup. my router is upstairs and the DISH box downstairs and apparently the receiver didn't have wireless capabilities. So they plugged that thing in to the wall, and now anything that is plugged straight in to the wall will pull an IP address. That means you can't run your PS3 through a battery backup/surge protector, but it will definitely get your ps3 an internet connection.

I took it as you plug the PS3 into the adapter via an ethernet chord and the adapter into the wall. On the other end the router is plugged into the adapter and the adapter into the wall. You're saying you don't need the adapter on the receiving end?
