This sucks if true. Did the Liberty Bowl ever issue a statement about what happened?

There has been some information released.

LINK

quote:

“The Liberty Bowl executive director (Steve Ehrhart) said Saturday evening that he had given Bruce Van De Velde a guarantee that LT would receive an invite,” Hurd told The Times in an email while in New York. . . .

Van De Velde admitted Tech originally had a written agreement that stated the Liberty Bowl would select the Bulldogs if Iowa State was not available.

“On Saturday, when Missy Setters told me, ‘We needed to know and we needed to know now,’ I said, ‘I have to call the Liberty Bowl now, and I’ve got to tell them I’ve got to have a commitment now, or I’m going to go to the I-Bowl.’ “That’s when the Liberty Bowl said to me, ‘Oh no, we’re going to take you regardless.’ And then, on Sunday, they changed.”

So basically, it seems like Tech's AD trusted the word of people on the committee when they had something different in writing.
