This maybe one of my favorite posts I have ever read on The Rant. The twists, turns, creativity, lucidity, redemption, and the copious amounts of similes made this thread fascinating and poignant. You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. Please post more. We need more people like you.
We are so lucky to have Les. No matter how frustrating, stubborn, and mind-numbingly conservative he can be at times, he wins 81% games. That is beautiful no matter how ugly and beat-your-head-against-the-wallness he can be. He actually has a personality, is not a mindless robot, and is a great leader for young men.

I understand that thought if you are an alabama fan. If you are an lsu fan, I think you would prefer for alabama to have les miles.

What people need to understand is that at this point, the recruiting machine at lsu is set up appropriately and money get into the appropriate hands so recruiting takes care of itself.
My point is that any coach out there who is a good coach, given lsu as his school, could recruit at such a level that would allow lsu to win 81% of games.

Do you think that usc does well? They likely win a high percent of their games. But few would doubt that they under perform year in and year out.

I don't know his personality, so I can't comment.
He is not a mindless robot, but he is a mindless human sometimes. And this is worse. And those mindless moments tends to be at times when he needs to be thinking quickly.
Finally, he is not a great leader of young men. I would say a great leader of young men also teaches their players discipline. And a team oriented approach. I have not seen lsu being very disciplined. I see them getting by on their great recruiting classes and getting by on talent.
Say what you will, but the team isn't a great team, much like usc is not a great team. They are a very talented team.
I think he fails as a great leader of young men.

a problem with trying to be very clever is we are rarely as clever as we think
