It's cool. Bash Brothers 2013 is coming. This time with 33% less steroids.

Whitie, what is going on with Anthony Grant?
Posted on 12/27/12 at 12:14 am to volfan30
I just think he had been overrated. He has the personality of a brick, but he had a great track record so people assumed he knew what he was doing.
His roster management has just been inexcusable. He's one of the highest paid coaches in the country and it's his fourth year. You have to do better than just having three marginal at best and injury prone bigs on your team. Everyone knew it would come back to bite him.
His in-game decisions have rarely ever made sense too. Terrible offense, plays out of timeouts have always been pathetic...which might be why he never calls timeouts, etc.

Yeah, I thought he underachieved last year, although he did have those suspensions to deal with. I figured Pollard would struggle based on what I had seen and heard out of him, but man that entire frontcourt has been brutal.
Is he on the hot seat if he misses the tourney this year?

The suspensions last year were just really strange. I still don't think anyone has any idea what happened. Every time Grant had a press conference he'd say no decision has been made yet and he'll say something at the next press conference.
Pollard's game doesn't match his size or position. Outside of a couple flashes, he's looked out of place and awkward. Brutal is an understatement on the frontcourt.
He'll be on the hot seat as much as an Alabama basketball coach can be on the hot seat, but his contract is terrible. He signed a 7 year contract worth $1.8 million per year originally out of VCU, and after last year he got a Shula-esque raise and extension through 2019. I don't know what his buyout is, but I'm sure it's high.
Is Maymon really not going to play this year?

Yeah, never really understood what went on with those. The way those players' statuses were just in limbo for a while with no real explanation was very strange.
Pollard being a 5 star was an absolute joke. Definition of a tweener and doesn't have the athleticism or skill needed to overcome it. That plus the way his recruitment was handled just added more red flags. Seemed like the perfect Stansbury player to me all the way.
I don't think Grant is as bad as Shula, but I have really been surprised with this drop off. He reminds me of Cuonzo some too, so it is a little concerning.
Yeah, Maymon is on board now with the redshirt it seems. Wanted to play this season, but I think he's fine with things now that he's missed the entire non conference schedule. Looks like they're going to play this season out and try to squeeze into the tourney and put all the eggs into next year's basket with Hubbs coming in and everybody else coming back. They were kind of missing another post to go with Stokes after Nichols went with Memphis, so this is kind of the perfect situation in some ways for the staff to try and make one big run with this group next year.

No I don't think he is either, but the extension he got last year is as bad as the one Shula got after going 10-2.
Sucks he's out for the year...he and Stokes are really good. That's a risky strategy but y'all have the potential to be a top 4 seed next year if that works out

I agree. I hate Bama, but like I said with the similarities beteen Grant/Cuonzo seeing Grant kind of fall apart here has me a little worried about Cuonzo. Both coaches really need to recruit some shooters, but at least we're in decent shape in the frontcourt.
Yeah, especially if we miss the tourney this year. Cuonzo really will go on the hot seat here. A lot of people on call in shows etc. are already yapping about the slow pace and missing the tourney again would be bad news for him.
I just think the staff feels like a potential Golden/Hubbs/McRae/Maymon/Stokes lineup next year is more appealing than possibly having Maymon coming back for 10 games or whatever just to get us up to an 8 or 9 seed.

Yeah I see what you mean. It can be very frustrating to watch.
All the call in shows here just say that Grant needs to hire an offensive co-ordinator...damn gumps probably think he needs to run the ball more

I would rather hear that though than the constant questions from the rednecks about when Pearl can come back. If we miss the tournament this year it will be absolutely brutal on that front. Most of our fans love Pearl more than Tennessee basketball.
