I will never ever like a song the first time I hear it.
I'm the exact opposite. The first time I hear a song played loud I know whether I like it.
And, to me, there is little better in this world than hearing a great song for the first time. Sticking with electropop, the first time I heard the song "Sleepyhead" was on a Palm Pixi commercial, and I immediately went to my computer to figure out the name of the song I just heard, and then I listened to it for about a week. Same with pumped up kicks. Same with Hang with Me, actually. And "hold on when you get love". And "The Riot's Gone" by Santigold. The Riot's Gone And crystalfilm by Little Dragon. And Brandy Alexander by Feist. Feist - Brandy Alexander
You get the idea.
Basically the way I know whether I truly love a song is whether I simply can't help myself from putting it on repeat for days or weeks after I hear it. It's a strange quirk I have. An ancillary benefit -- or detriment? -- of said quirk is that I can confidently speak of my musical likes and dislikes in rather emphatic tones.

quote:Of course. When I was just getting more into classical and opera, Mozart's Requiem was my favorite. I decided to develop a finer ear for this kind of music, I should to different versions/interpretations of the same piece allowing me to listen for subtle differences/nuances between performances.
Seriously?

I do the same thing. It drives other people nuts. For me I each time I listen to it consecutively I hear something slightly different allowing me to move closer to the soul/essence of the song's core.
