It just doesn't make any sense.. This sport makes unreal amount of money.. why put this poor quality out on the field.

How's this for starters? The ball is kicked off, one team is on offense, the other is on defense. The QB snaps the ball and both teams just stand up, start patting each other on the back, talking to one another, and stand there doing nothing for an entire quarter.
They're still there, in uniform, technically "playing" and making their millions.
Or, they could do what the Packers were threatening to do in their locker room last night: just walk out there, snap the ball, and take a knee on every down. Once the game starts impacting the fans, that will be when the owners begin to feel the effects on their coffers.
