MMO's do not have to be as big as WOW to be profitable, and just because a game doesn't kill WOW doesn't make it a failure.
LOTRO is not a failure. EQ2 is not a failure. SWTOR is not a failure as long as they are making money.
WOW was the perfect storm at the perfect time. I doubt you will see another WOW. Too many options out there now.

They keep developing MMOs, so that should tell everyone that they are making money or anticipate profiting in the genre. If they didn't, they wouldn't make the games.
These games were profitable with a couple hundred thousand subscribers only 10 years ago. I don't think that changed all that much and there are a lot more users playing them today than ever.

Not early on, but now.....it exemplifies all of the worst things about the genre. So much promise, such a great game, now a shell of its former self.
