you could be right and my comparison was based on this one game. 2003 did rank #1 in the nation in scoring D which in my humble opinion is the most important defensive stat.Of course you don't get that #1 ranking without pretty decent stats in most other defensive categories.
Where did the Tigers finish last year in scoring D?

I wouldn't say far superior, but damn they were good.
And a lot of fun to watch. Every opposing QB spent most of the game on his back or trying to avoid being there.
Sadly, the spread offense changed all that.

Have to disagree there. 2003 allowed one team to crack 20 points on us (55-24 win vs. Arkansas). Shut down high-powered offenses of UGA (twice), Oklahoma (number one offense nationally, with Heisman winner), and Ole Miss (only allowed 10 offensive points).
