Thanks
Do I need to use backing or is it a waste?

It will be on a 7'7" mh rod.
Is there anything special with tying knots with braid?

Check out sufix 832...i'm loving it so far, personally i like to use backing so i'm not wasting it. when fishing clear water i would go with a fluoro leader

eta: i use palomar knots with braid and an albright knot to tie braid to leader

i spool the first have mono, 2nd half braid. cheaper that way. maybe not exactly half, but you get the idea. I'll use a leader if in really clear water, or on spinners/buzz/spoons, or baits with movement like this, so the braid doesn't loop and catch.

Yes, or your line will spin on the spool. The stuff isn't the cheapest so the backing saves you some coin. I use the 60# braid, I find I have more professional overruns with the lighter stuff. Double uni or albright connecting leader, I use a drop of super glue on the albright. Palomar for tying directly to bait.
