I don't think this can be his 4th positive test, because he was never suspended for a year for a 3rd positive test. If it IS his 4th failed test, LSU would be in serious trouble for not suspending him for a year after the 3rd failed test.

I just think Miles spoke about a "permanent" suspension because he felt Mathieu would move on to an FCS program if he couldn't play for a year. But Mathieu wanting to sit out a year and then come back was something Miles never considered.

If it's a 4th failed test, LSU is in trouble for violating its own policy. I don't think that's the case.

LSU policy allows for an appeal of the 3rd failed test. If it is granted another failed test results in permanent ineligibility at LSU. We can't know exactly what happened because LSU can't make it public, but this scenario does seem to fit.

They would only be in trouble with themselves, not the NCAA.
