Exactly.
Assuming this was his 3rd failed test, the policy is to have a one year suspension. Maybe when Mathieu was told he'd miss the year, he decided to transfer. Then after seeing how shitty his transfer options were, he decided it was best to take his one year LSU suspension. Assuming it was his only his 3rd failed test, it would not be "terrible precedent" to let him face the punishment the university sets.
