Buddy Rich - Holland '78
quote:
Buddy Rich features the relentless power and unparalleled artistry of the man who was known as "The World's Greatest Drummer." This 75-minute concert, taped in Holland in 1978, showcases one of the tightest big bands in history, featuring acclaimed saxophonist Steve Marcus and other members of Buddy's "Killer Force," the group he would later call "the best band I ever had." Standout performances include "Grand Concourse," "Big Swing Face," and "Channel One Suite," which features Buddy's jaw-dropping drum solo.

Buddy Rich rant
You guys are gonna be back in New York on the bread line so fast you won’t even know that you were on this frickin’ band. How dare you play a frickin’ set like that. Since when did the frickin’ trumpet players become the leader of this frickin’ band and decide how long they’re gonna hold a chord? What the frick do you think you’re doin’? You think you’re playin’ with some kid up there? I expect one-hundred-and-ten percent fricking perfection every frickin’ tune, you got that? If you can’t do it, get off my frickin’ band to-NIGHT! You had a day off yesterday and you come back like this and you suck! What the frick kind of music do you think you’re playing here anyhow? And who do you think you’re playing for? You think I’ll tolerate that shite? You’re worse than any frickin’ high school band I ever heard.

Rich's temper, mercurial attitude and imposing personality are documented in secret recordings that pianist Lee Musiker made during some of his tantrums on tour buses and backstage in the early 1980s.[18] These recordings, long circulated in bootleg form, have done much to fuel the reputation of Rich's personality.
