What are some of the must follow rules in keeper leagues? We are wanting to go to a keeper league. Iv never played a keeper league and need some input on best way to run it. TIA

In rules I mean, rules for the league to follow. We are setting one up for our league but have no idea what are some rules such as, how many players can you keep?, how long can you keep them? which rounds will they count against the following year? etc

we can keep up to 3 players in ours, but if you keep 3 you can not draft until the 2nd round.

So say for instance I had on my team last yr Foster 1-rd, Romo 5-rd, Graham 8-rd.
If I keep all three I lose my first rd pick.....but what other rounds do I lose?

just the first round pick. everyone drafts 2nd round.

Here's our setup:
If you keep a player, you lose the draft pick of the round that players was drafted in. Players from free agency are kept in last round of the draft. We assign values by round drafted.
1st Rd - $5mm
2nd Rd - $4mm
3rd Rd - $3mm
4th Rd - $2mm
5th - 15th Rd - $1mm
Over the years, we have voted our cap down from $10mm to $6mm. We also have a limit of 3 keepers for that cap, with the option to keep a rookie for $0mm if we didn't start them more than 3 times throughout the season.
Our setup rewards good moves, and also ensures that elite players drafted are back in the draft after a couple years, so that it keeps the league competitive and maintains a good level of importance on the draft itself.
