Yeah, I didn't list guys like Montgomery, Mathieu, Mettenberger, Ford, Beckham, etc. because they have been talked about ad nauseum. Mingo has too, but he is better than I remember. The man is unreal.
I listed some guys who I think will really break out - like, big-time star break out and be even better than we remember last year. Yeah, Mingo is already there, but as I watched games, I just could not believe his speed off the edge.
When I watch the game live, I'm all caught up in the emotion of it. Last night, I had some time to kill so I just watched games on You Tube. The big games are all there. I would encourage you to do it to get a feel for this team and to forget about 1/9.
Also, not to stir up a hornet's nest, but Jefferson looked really good in that Arkansas game. I can see why Miles thought he would break out in the next 2 games. Of course he didn't, but it isn't like he didn't have the ability. The man was just a head case who wilted under pressure.
Also, coming back against Arkansas and Georgia the way we did through special teams and defense is what did us in against Alabama - that, and the fact that we won the first game. I think it made the coaching staff complacent because they kept thinking that something would happen and we would get a spark and make a play and get back in the game. They didn't make changes to force the issue. Of course, if JJ had completed those 2-3 passes that would have been touchdowns in the second half, suddenly, we are either within one score in the fourth quarter or we are in the lead. Even though we got dominated, we still had the potential to get back in the game if we would have executed. All blame can be laid at JJ's feet, in my opinion, but he dropped the ball - literally. The coaches should have seen it, but did not and so it goes.
But, that was a GREAT football team who just destroyed their other opponents. Hopefully, this year we will have an offense that causes us to be more balanced so we can be even better.
